The Project:
Kent State University sought to modernize its dispatch center with advanced control consoles to enhance operations and improve overall efficiency. The project had the following requirements:
Installation of four consoles: three for dispatchers and one for the supervising operator.
Accommodation of specialized IT equipment and multiple CPUs within each console.
Easy access for maintenance without disrupting daily operations.
Ergonomic design allowing operators to adjust workstation height for optimal comfort during extended shifts, minimizing strain and fatigue.
Support for six central monitors on the dispatcher consoles and dual monitor positions at opposite ends of the worksurface for the supervisor's console.
Efficient cable management to maintain a clutter-free workspace and ensure easy access for maintenance.
Ample worksurface space to promote operator comfort and reduce strain during long shifts.
Seamless integration of specialized IT equipment, CPUs, and monitors while maintaining a clean and organized appearance.
The solution:
After a thorough assessment of Kent State University's requirements and preferences, our client chose our FOCUS console as the perfect solution for their new dispatch center. The FOCUS console, engineered for durability, ergonomics, and versatility, surpassed the university's expectations, guaranteeing a seamless and efficient operation.
The consoles feature HPL laminate worksurfaces with PVC edging, providing ample space for two distinct zones: a primary work zone for peripherals and frequently used tools, and a secondary zone housing the monitor poles, grommet holes, and a monument system. The surface frame effectively routes cables to cable chains, ensuring a clutter-free workspace. Levelers allow for precise adjustment of the console, while a keypad controls the height of the console through lifting columns, promoting ergonomic comfort for operators.
Cable chains securely manage cables during movement and separate power and data cables, maintaining organization and safety. The focus wall utilizes internal channels to route cables from one end of the console to the other, keeping them hidden and protected. Removable finishing panels provide easy access to cables and components without requiring tools. A retractable monument built into the worksurface offers convenient access to power and data outlets. Lastly, a surface anti-collision sensor, installed underneath the worksurface, prevents accidents and damage to equipment.
